GFC offer a variety of services including custom upholstery and upcycling but our heart always lies with teaching. With a vast range of experience available from working with charities, local councils, schools, GFC offers fun, friendly and creative courses.
Fancy having a go at some upholstery? Come along to the 'Make your own pinboard' class and learn the basics of upholstery to get you started. Once completed the class you will have the necessary transferrable skills (including button making and buttoning) to help you make your own headboards, dining seats, padded blanket boxes and much more.
Class last 3 hours and will be kept to a small size of 5 so you get enough one to one time with the tutor. All materials and refreshments are included in the price but participants are asked to bring 0.5m sq of your chosen final fabric.
Class price includes a buttoning kit to take home with you.
'Make your own footstool' evening class
4 weeks starting from Thursday 7th Sept 2017
GFC are now offering an evening course on 'How to make your own footstool' where you'll learn exactly what it says. Build up your custom stool from scratch and learn the techniques to sew and upholster your very own addition to the home, First class starts on Thursday 3rd August between 6pm - 9pm and last for 4 weeks.
New dates are available for the long established weekend French polishing and traditional upholstery class which continues to book out every month. The class aims to get you started with the basics of French polishing where you will learn to prep, stain and polish your chair from scratch. You will also be taught the initial stages of traditional upholstery with some modern techniques included via a small upcycling project. This class covers an extensive amount to get you confident in starting your own projects at home.
Weekend French polishing and traditional upholstery class

This weekend taster class will give a great introduction to the basics of fixed traditional upholstery and French Polishing. Not your usual upcycling class, by the end of the class you will know how to: Prepare timber for French polishing, techniques to stain & polish timber, web a chair, build up seat padding using traditional stuffing materials and methods, attach your final cover & work using traditional upholstery tools and methods.
The class will also allow the opportunity to complete a pin board upcycling project that further covers other techniques used within the craft including button making & deep buttoning.
The class runs from 9:00am - 5pm both Saturday & Sunday. The class size is kept to a maximum of 4 persons to ensure that you get sufficient one-to-one time with the tutor.
All materials, chair and lunch are provided throughout the weekend and ask that you only provide 1m of your chosen final fabric for your chair project & 0.5m for your upcycled pin board project.
At the end of the weekend you will be able to take your completed project home to show off to your friends and family. Please note it may be advisable to drive or organise someone to pick you up Sunday afternoon to take you and your chair home.
